What Comfort Care Hospice?

Comfort Care Hospice, located in the Cameron Regional Medical Center Branch Office Building, is dedicated to providing compassionate care for individuals facing terminal illnesses. Our team is committed to helping patients live their final months and days with dignity, comfort, and peace. We focus on providing holistic care that encompasses medical, social, and spiritual support, depending on the needs and desires of the patient and their family.

Hospice care is designed to provide relief from symptoms when curative treatments are no longer effective or desired. Our goal is to enhance the quality of life during this stage, ensuring that patients and their families can make the most of the time they have together. Services are available in the patient’s home, assisted living facilities, or nursing homes, providing flexibility to meet the specific needs of the individual.

When is Hospice Care Needed?

Hospice care is appropriate when a patient's medical treatment goals shift from seeking a cure to focusing on comfort. This decision typically occurs when an attending physician determines that the prognosis is six months or less due to a terminal illness. At this stage, Comfort Care Hospice steps in to provide comprehensive care that focuses on alleviating symptoms and enhancing quality of life. Our team helps ensure that patients are as comfortable as possible while providing peace of mind for their families.

Hospice care offers personalized support and is sensitive to the wishes of both the patient and their family, keeping dignity and comfort at the forefront of care. Our services allow families to remain by their loved one's side, knowing they are receiving the highest level of compassionate care.

Hospice Care is a Team Approach

The Comfort Care Hospice team is made up of various professionals who work collaboratively to provide the best possible care for patients and families:

  • Patient and Attending Physician: The patient’s attending physician and the hospice team work together to determine the goals of care.
  • Hospice Medical Director: Oversees the hospice care plan and provides medical guidance.
  • Registered Nurses (RNs) and Licensed Practical Nurses (LPNs): Provide medical care, symptom management, and education.
  • Certified Hospice Aides: Assist with personal care needs such as bathing, dressing, and hygiene.
  • Social Worker: Provides counseling and assistance with practical concerns like advance directives and funeral planning.
  • Spiritual Care Coordinator: Offers spiritual support and comfort to the patient and family, respecting their individual beliefs and needs.
  • Bereavement Specialist: Provides ongoing emotional support to the family before and after the loss of a loved one.
  • Volunteers: Offer companionship, respite for caregivers, and assist with various tasks.

Together, this team works to ensure that the patient’s needs are met, and the family feels supported throughout the hospice journey.
