Pre-Surgical Testing

The primary goal of pre-surgical testing is to ensure your safety during surgery. You may be instructed to visit your primary care provider for a History and Physical (H&P) exam before your procedure. This evaluation, performed by the provider who knows you best, helps identify any potential health concerns that may affect anesthesia or surgical outcomes.

Pre-Surgical Steps
  • You will receive a folder with detailed doctor’s orders for any required bloodwork or diagnostic testing.
  • your physician may identify additional testing that is needed

The goal of pre-surgical testing is to identify and resolve any potential health issues to ensure a smooth surgery day.

Pre-Surgical Instructions
  • Communication: You will receive a call from our Surgery staff a few days before your procedure with specific instructions and details.

  • Support Person:
  • One support person may accompany you to the hospital and must drive you home after surgery.
  • If you are under general anesthesia or sedation, an adult must care for you for 12-24 hours post-surgery.

  • Childcare: Children under 16 are not allowed in the hospital. Please make childcare arrangements. Teen drivers may act as your support person.

  • Pediatric Patients: Pediatric patients are allowed TWO parents/support persons during the surgery process.

  • Female Patients: Women of childbearing age will be asked to submit a urine specimen for pregnancy screening unless they have undergone tubal sterilization or a hysterectomy.

  • GI Patients: Patients should expect a phone call a few days prior to scheduled surgery to discuss check in time, bowel prep instructions, and a brief health history.

  • What to Bring:
