What is Monarch Behavioral Health Unit?

The Monarch Behavioral Health Unit is a 12-bed inpatient psychiatric program designed specifically for seniors aged 55 and older. Our unit is equipped with a team of mental health professionals who specialize in treating the unique needs of older adults, ensuring that each patient receives the care and attention they need in a safe, supportive environment.

Our goal is to help seniors regain mental stability, improve emotional well-being, and enhance their quality of life by providing targeted treatments and a calming atmosphere. We focus on individualized care plans tailored to each patient’s condition and personal needs.

Know the Signs

It’s essential to recognize the signs of mental health concerns in older adults, as early intervention can significantly improve treatment outcomes. Look for the following symptoms:

  • Decreased Interest: Loss of interest in previously enjoyed activities or hobbies.
  • Suicidal Thoughts: Expressions of hopelessness or thoughts of self-harm.
  • Aggression: Increased irritability or aggression in response to minor frustrations.
  • Sleep Disturbance: Difficulty falling asleep or staying asleep, leading to daytime fatigue.
  • Hallucinations: Hearing voices or seeing things that are not present.
  • Paranoid Thoughts: Belief that others are out to harm them or plotting against them.
  • Sadness: Persistent feelings of sadness, emptiness, or a sense of being overwhelmed.
  • Nutritional Disturbance: Loss of appetite or significant changes in eating habits.

Recognizing these signs early can help in seeking the appropriate care and support for seniors in need of mental health treatment.
